I just posted my first Instagram “Reel” sharing my fall capsule work wardrobe! I shared different ways to style a handful of pieces that I consider work wardrobe essentials! These items are essentials in my opinion because they are classic items that will always be in style and they are so versatile, they can be mixed and matched together to create new outfits (which you will see NEXT!)
A classic white button down shirt looks professional and it goes with nearly any pant or skirt! I also LOVE wearing a white button down shirt underneath a dress (I’ll share that look later in this blog post!)! A button down shirt looks good on its own but also could be layered under a blazer, sweater, or cardigan! Here I am wearing a button down shirt with black ankle pants, black block heeled pumps, and a camel colored sweater around my shoulders!

Using the same items, another way to style them is by wearing the camel sweater over the white button up shirt. Love this color combination, especially for fall! Although I am partial to this color combination, any color sweater would look really good with the white button up shirt and black pants! (To prevent the white button up shirt from bunching, I recommend tucking it into the pants and making sure it’s taut! I also recommend trying this look under a sweater that has a somewhat loose fit to it.)

Using the same base outfit of a white collared shirt, black pants, and black shoes, another way to style these items for a more professional look is by wearing a blazer over the top! Since the base outfit is very neutral, any color blazer will look good! Here I am wearing a pretty black and white tweed blazer.

One of my favorite pieces to wear in the fall is a classic trench coat! (I also wear it in the spring and on those cool summer days!) I like this one in particular because of the details, such as the belt around the waist, buckle detail at the sleeves, and tortoise buttons! This trench coat could be worn to work and also casually with jeans for a classic, everyday look! Actually, all of these pieces could be repurposed and worn outside of work as well! (One of my favorite weekend outfits is a classic white button up shirt and jeans!)

Black pants are so versatile and easy to style for work! Next, I will share how to style the above pieces with a black dress instead! Starting off with one of my favorite ways to style a dress and that is with a white collared shirt underneath! This is such a classic outfit! (It would also make for a great important meeting or interview outfit!) One of the reasons that I love sleeveless dresses is because they look SO good with a shirt layered underneath!

One of the reasons that I love fall fashion so much is because of all the layers! I think layers make an outfit so interesting! (Not to mention warm and cozy!) Here I layered on a tweed blazer over the white collared shirt and black sheath dress from the previous outfit!

This outfit also could be worn without the white collared shirt, as seen here!

Another way to style a dress is by wearing a sweater over the top of it to make it look like a skirt! Below, I rolled the hem of the camel sweater from earlier to hit me above the waist and to make the dress look like a pencil skirt!

I styled almost all of these outfits with pointed toe block heel pumps. I find these pumps to be so comfortable because the heel is not too high and they have a block heel so there is more support! I’m also wearing a gold watch, which is my favorite accessory! I wear this watch almost everyday, both for work and outside of work! Lastly, I would carry a black structured purse with all of these outfits!
I hope you found this blog post helpful in creating a capsule work wardrobe and thinking about different ways to style these pieces! Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more daily work wear outfit ideas! ♥
(P.S. Most of these items I have had for several years and I linked similar options to get the look if the exact item is no longer available!)
