Looking stylish and keeping warm during the winter can be quite the challenge! If you’re from New England or up north then you know, unfortunately, that we still have a couple of months to go before we can start breaking out the spring dresses and lightweight jackets. Today I’m sharing with you my tips and secrets for looking stylish in the cold weather!

Thermals
Thermals are my best friend this time of year! I wear a thermal shirt almost every day and they are so lightweight they are virtually undetectable under my clothes! I always thought thermals were chunky and the waffle style would show through my clothes so I never bought them but I discovered lightweight and smooth thermals a few years ago and they have been a game changer! I am able to wear pretty blouses and dresses during the winter while keeping warm and cozy! The thermals come in a variety of colors including white, gray, black, and red.

Quality Winter Coat
A quality winter coat is an investment piece and, in my opinion, well worth it! Here on the east coast we wear winter coats from November until April (give or take!) so that is almost five months that you need to wear a coat every day! Often times a coat is the only thing people see of your outfit, for example if you’re at the grocery store, out shopping, running errands, etc. you are probably not going to be taking it off. And because a coat is such a large item that covers 80% of you it stands out and is the first thing that people notice. A quality winter coat made of wool will also keep you the warmest and a quality coat will last year after year! A coat that is black, camel, or cream colored will be the most versatile and you’ll be able to wear it with anything! One of my best investments this season has been this beautiful Reiss cream winter coat! I love the high collar, long length, and tie waist belt because it cinches in my waist! I also love this cream color because I think light reflects off of it and brightens by face! Cream or camel colored winter coats are timeless and classic but they stand out because everyone is usually in black coats! And the best part is that this time of year you can find a really good quality winter coat for a fraction of the price! Winter Accessories (hats, gloves, scarves)
Winter accessories, such as hats, gloves, and scarves are a must have! I treated myself to these beautiful cashmere gloves this winter after a very frustrating experience when I bought a pair of $10 gloves (it was an impulse buy at the register) and the very first time that I put them on my finger went through the material and poked a hole through it! At that moment I promised myself to only buy quality gloves and I’m so glad that I did! The cashmere gloves that I bought are not only so beautiful (love the ruffles at the end!) but they are so warm! Well worth the investment! And, again, the best part is that you can buy really good quality cashmere or leather gloves right now for almost half the original price! Love a good sale!
A winter hat is sure to keep your head warm! Beanie hats with a pom at the tip are so cute and perfect for everyday! My personal favorite is a wool or wool blend beret hat because they are so warm, fashionable, and they don’t mess up my hair!
A warm and cozy scarf is another must have for winter and not only for the obvious reason of keeping warm but because it’s a fun way to change up an outfit! If I’m not wearing my cream colored winter coat then I’m wearing my black winter coat and wearing the same two coats for months can get a bit boring! But changing up the scarf that I wear can totally transform my outfit! I also love to tie my scarf in different ways to keep things interesting! I usually do a quick search in Pinterest on how to tie a scarf to find different ways! My favorites are the “loop through” and “fashion knot”!

Over the Knee Boots
Over the knee boots are my second best friend during the winter! I am able to wear cute skirts and dresses while keeping warm with over the knee boots! Over the knee boots also look so cute with jeans and a sweater! Love that you can dress them up or down! Years ago I wasn’t too sure how much use I would get out of them so I bought a pair of lower quality over the knee boots that were reasonably priced to try out. And I loved them! I wore them so much that I decided to invest in a really nice pair of Stuart Weitzman over the boots and I’m so glad that I did! I wear them all the time and have had them for years and they still look like new! Stuart Weitzman suede over the knee boots are such great quality, comfortable, so soft, and they stay up! Over the knee boots have been in style for several years and they are going no where anytime soon so it is a good idea to invest in a good quality pair if you know you’ll get good use out of them! I’m all about buying less but buying quality and whenever I buy an item that is on the pricey side I always think about the price per wear.

Cashmere Sweater
Cashmere sweaters are so soft, cozy, and warm and such great quality but they are also so expensive! This is the perfect time to invest in a beautiful cashmere sweater because there are so many great “end of season” sales going on now! I say “end of season” because the stores are already bringing out the spring and summer clothes and clearing out the winter items but we here on the east coast are still months away from wearing anything spring! Cashmere is also so timeless and you can be sure that a cashmere sweater will be stylish for years to come!

Sweater dress
Sweater dresses are so comfortable, warm, cozy and so stylish! Sweater dresses are also so versatile and you can wear a sweater dress as an everyday outfit with over the knee boots but you could also wear a sweater dress with black tights and knee high boots or sock booties and it is the perfect office outfit! Sweater dresses are effortlessly stylish! And once again, this is the perfect time to buy a sweater dress because they are all on major sale right now! Since sweater dresses are such a timeless style you can rest assured that you can wear them year after year!
